GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. To understand conflicting dates in older articles, separate the date of each announcement from the launch target it described. The timeline below follows Rockstar and Take-Two announcements rather than release-date rumors.
Facts checked October 17, 2026 (UTC). A scheduled release date can change; it is not a guarantee.

The official announcement timeline
| Announcement | What it established | How to read it now |
|---|---|---|
| December 2023 | Rockstar released the first trailer. | A reveal milestone. Original trailer announcement. |
| May 2, 2025 | The previous fall 2025 window changed to May 26, 2026. | An older target, since replaced. Take-Two announcement. |
| November 6, 2025 | Rockstar revised the target to November 19, 2026. | The currently scheduled day. Rockstar schedule update. |
Why an old date can still appear in search results
An announcement can remain a useful historical source after its planned date changes. The May 2025 statement records what was planned then; it should not be presented as the latest release schedule. Check the publication date and look for a later statement from the same issuer before using a reposted headline to plan a purchase.
Rockstar’s November update explained that the additional time was for polish. That statement does not establish a particular engine failure, staffing change, or other detailed cause. Those explanations need their own evidence.
Where to check the current position
Start with the official GTA VI page and compare it with Rockstar’s newest dated schedule announcement. Keep an older announcement for context, but label its launch date as historical when a later official update replaces it.
For the concise current date and platform answer, use our GTA 6 release-date guide. Questions about a computer version belong in our separate PC release-date and requirements guide; this console timeline does not establish a PC launch.
Correction: The earlier article’s E3 presentation description was unsupported. This chronology uses Rockstar’s documented December 2023 trailer announcement.
