What does the free PC upgrade mean?
Rockstar’s PC upgrade announcement says existing GTA V owners on PC can upgrade to GTAV Enhanced without an additional game purchase. That offer concerns an upgrade for owners, rather than a general giveaway to everyone. The announcement names the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam and Epic Games as distribution platforms.
Check the offer and your account’s library for your situation. A subscription, promotion or upgrade may have its own conditions; a headline containing “free” is not enough to establish what you receive or how long access lasts.
Choose Enhanced or Legacy before installing
The official Rockstar PC store listing includes both GTAV Enhanced and GTAV Legacy with the listed purchase. Their hardware and storage requirements differ. Enhanced lists an SSD as a requirement, so it should not be described as merely an optional performance recommendation.
Compare your computer with the current requirements for the edition you intend to use, including its operating system, graphics hardware and available storage. Check the listing again before downloading: requirements and offers can change. A successful download alone does not show that a computer meets the requirements.

If an installed copy has file problems
Rockstar documents a file verification procedure for its launcher: sign in, open Settings, select the installed game, then choose Verify Integrity in the file-verification section. This can help with some file-related issues and supporting-file updates. It is not a guarantee that every launch error will disappear.
If verification does not resolve the problem, use the official support article for the specific error and edition. Keep the error message and edition name available when seeking help. Instructions for a third-party mod, a mobile companion app or a different GTA title are not installation instructions for your PC copy of GTA V.
