To start making money in GTA Online, choose activities you can actually access and compare their costs before buying a business. Career Builder can help eligible new characters, while joining an existing Heist lets you learn before committing to hosting one. There is no guaranteed GTA$-per-hour figure in this guide.

Career Builder: what the GTA$4 million covers
Rockstar’s Career Builder guide lists four starting paths: Biker, Executive, Gunrunner and Nightclub Owner. The feature is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC Enhanced. It is a one-time start-up allocation, with at most GTA$1 million carried into play after choosing essentials such as property, a vehicle and weapons. It is not GTA$4 million of unrestricted spending money.
Deleting a character does not restore Career Builder eligibility. Plan the initial purchases around the career you intend to play, rather than treating a reset as another payment.
Join a Heist before buying the host requirements
For the original apartment Heists, Rockstar specifies Rank 12 and a high-end apartment to host. A player without those prerequisites can accept another player’s Heist invitation. These are the original apartment-Heist rules; later Heists have their own entry requirements.
As a practical starting plan, try an available Job or join a crew first. Before spending on hosting or a business, check the relevant in-game setup requirements, player count and costs. Learning an activity is useful even when its headline payout looks less impressive.
Check bonus dates and keep a simple budget
Use the dated Rockstar Newswire and the current in-game event information. For example, the 29 January 2026 Odd Jobs announcement offered double rewards only through 4 February. That offer has expired; it is not a current earnings rate.
- Check whether an advertised bonus applies to your activity, platform and play dates.
- Record what you spend and receive over a complete session, including preparation time.
- Keep funds for your next planned activity before buying a cosmetic or vehicle upgrade.
Those budgeting steps are planning advice, not additional game requirements. Compare vehicle performance and upgrade configurations before a large purchase. If you are playing the campaign instead, use our GTA V Story Mode overview; this guide concerns the separate Online mode.
