For a GTA V map guide, distinguish the mini-map in your running game from a separate map reference. The first helps you orient yourself nearby; a manual or reference map helps you inspect a wider area. Match any instructions to your game mode and installed platform.

Read the mini-map’s orientation
The official Xbox One game help describes a mini-map that rotates with the character’s facing direction. Its N marker identifies north. Read that marker rather than assuming the top always means north.
When comparing a route with a separate reference, first match the area and direction. A location name in a guide is not evidence that every icon, activity or mission is currently available in your game.
Story Mode mission colors
| Character | Color |
|---|---|
| Franklin | Green |
| Michael | Blue |
| Trevor | Orange |
Rockstar Support also explains that mission icons for the currently controlled character appear larger. Use these colors for Story Mode, rather than applying the table to every GTA Online icon. For character abilities and mission context, see our GTA V Story Mode overview.
GPS and controls: follow your own edition
The older Xbox One game help describes quick GPS points through the Interaction Menu. Use the prompts shown by your installed edition. Rockstar’s settings guide places controls and display options under Pause Menu, then Settings. Its PC controls tips also explains that most PC inputs can be rebound, so a copied key list may not match your setup.
Find a reference map
The official GTA V manual app includes an interactive map with zoom alongside its reference pages. Use it to study an area, then check your current mission and character inside the game. Older manual examples should be matched to the version you are playing.
