GTA V Release Dates by Platform and Edition

Grand Theft Auto V first launched on 17 September 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Its original PC release followed on 14 April 2015. Later console versions and the 2025 PC Enhanced version have their own release dates, which explains why a store page can show a different year for the same game.

Why the PC dates should not be combined

The April 2015 announcement records the first PC release. The March 2025 announcement introduces the later Enhanced version and distinguishes it from the original PC version, now called Legacy. The Enhanced release did not replace 2015 as the date GTA V first became available on PC.

Likewise, the March 2022 date concerns the newer console versions, rather than the game’s original launch. The table identifies digital availability for those versions; it should not be used as a release date for every physical package or regional edition.

Choose information for the edition you own

Check the full platform and edition name in your library or the store listing before following a guide. A release-history table does not establish current multiplayer service availability, save-migration rules or what a particular purchase includes.

If you want Story Mode, check that it is included in the selected product rather than assuming that a GTA Online listing includes it. For the principal Story Mode cast, see our GTA 5 playable-character guide.

Correction: the earlier article gave conflicting PC dates and used an outdated ten-year-anniversary framing. Those statements, along with unrelated character and expansion claims, have been removed.
